Patterns of distorted thinking (11). Does a unique solution exist for each problem?

personal values | Psychology | self improvement

The eleventh pattern in the series of distorted thoughts is the believing that only a correct solution exists for each problem, and that if we don't find it, the consequences can be terrible.

This is something irrational because there is always more than a solution to certain problem and rarely the perfect solution exists. All possible alternative to face a problem will contain certain positive elements and certain negative ones. All we can do is to evaluate among the possible solutions we have and to choose the one that shines well among the others. Then we should see what happen. If it doesn't succeed then we should try with another solution or face the consequences of what we decided.

Each one of us is responsible for his acts and we should act with such a responsibility in life. We should assume our responsibility for what we do and it should be our duty to always behave in the best possible way. When we do both things consciously, that is to say, to assume responsibility and to act the best we can, everything will go relatively well and we won't have to face bigger tragedies.

To look for perfection is something that only causes anguish and anxiety and in a long term it will lead us to make the worst decisions. We cannot wait for the perfect solution to appear, because it doesn't exist and in the process of waiting often things get worst. It is an error believing that only a perfect solution exists.

To be perfectionist is one of the things that causes big emotional suffering and the undecided person suffers vastly. The worst thing that can exist for a human being is the indecision. We should assume responsibility and learn how to choose in a responsible way the options that we have.
