Air Supply "Lost In Love"

As light and gentle as a spring morning, as deep and profound as a Hallmark card, and as threatening as a kitten, Australia's Air Supply were an act spawned in the deepest bowels of Hell to rock music fans and critics, but they were also one of the most prolific hitmaking acts of the '80s. And the song that launched their careers in America was also the first of seven Top Ten singles for the group.
The group revolved around principal singers and songwriters Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell who formed Air Supply in the late '70s after meeting as cast members of an Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. They garnered little attention, even in their homeland, until a stint opening for Rod Stewart on a North American tour which led to the release of their album Lost In Love. Panned by critics for the sugarcoated and sickly sweet melodies, Air Supply nonetheless found favor at radio and with the record-buying public. The dreamy, melancholy-tinged title song became their first US hit, climbing all the way to #3 in April of 1980. Typical of their style, "Lost In Love" appealed to lovestruck teens and housewives, but it appealed to enough of them to make the band superstars.
During the next five years, Air Supply would release nearly half a dozen albums, most reaching platinum sales and several lodging in the Top Ten, and have a string of hit singles that would be staples at proms throughout the decade.
