Patterns of distorted thinking (2). Should we be effective in all fields?

personal values | Psychology | self improvement

An area or distorted pattern of thought is when people try with great efforts to be effective in all the fields. We cannot be effective in all the areas of life. This is known as perfectionism.

There are people that live constantly concerned to succeed in every field and the reality tells us that we cannot be effective in everything. It is not a way of justifying our bad operation, but simply to accept the reality. This way of thinking alone can bring us a lot of emotional suffering, because as we know, a man without errors doesn’t exist.

People this way concerned, in general reach great victories, but they are not able to enjoy them. Even those that achieve the comfortable position they wish, once reached, they will be worried by not falling from that position. That is to say that cannot concentrate in the good things of life, because continually they will be worried trying to reach perfection.

We cannot be perfect in everything. An engineer can be a terrible farmer and at the same time, a good farmer cannot worth anything as engineer. I mean that we should leave a place in our life to failure and we should center all our effectiveness in what constitutes the central objective of our life in each moment. Let us never seek perfection and succeed in all areas of our lives, because life itself demonstrates that it is impossible.
