Patterns of distorted thinking (7). Is it better to avoid difficulties than to face them?

personal values | Psychology | self improvement

Another idea of distorted thought is to believe that it is better to avoid difficulties and responsibilities than to face them. When being about to avoid or to escape from the difficulties and responsibilities we will be creating bigger problems. To leave problems unsolved, the only thing that achieves is to increase our anxiety, depression and guilt. While facing them our sensation of self trust increases, the personal esteem improves and we feel more satisfied with life.

A satisfactory life is not a life without problems like people commonly think. The most satisfactory life is where problems and responsibilities are assumed.

From the psychological point of view something very interesting happens. When a person reacts with fear and avoids facing the difficulties or responsibilities, he records in his subconscious mind a behavior pattern that we could call ‘defensive’. Those are people that live with fear toward the future and to life. That will create emotional negative states and lack of trust in their self.

The person that doesn't avoid the responsibilities, that faces his problems and doesn't delay their solution, creates a behavior pattern that we could call ‘aggressive’. Their security will go increasing and also his personal image.

The most satisfactory life is not a life without problems, this is impossible. The most satisfactory life is where problems are confronted and responsibilities are assumed in the most effective way. To avoid problems will create future bigger problems. To leave things for later on will increase our anxiety, our depression and our guilt.
